One of my pottery teachers once said an artist is one who create, a sculptor is one who sculpts a painter is one who paints... a writer is one who writes...I liked that as society often asigns the role of an artist to those who are famous or who studied art...I feel an artist is one who creates as the gift to create is inherent in all of us bestowed on us by The Creator...my journey as an artist started in a pottery studio where I was thrown out of in Alice Springs. I started to make a platter which turned into a full blown head of an American Indian an attempt to make a cup became a sculpture. My pottery teacher politely steered me to the Sculpture Class in Alice. No plates or cups wanted to form from my hands somehow. The Sculpture Studio in Alice in the desert overlooked the Red Desert Stuart Peas..and an American Sculpture Teacher played classical music and recited Banjo Patterson Poems as she sat on a high chair and occassionally came around to us students tasked to sculpt in every medium possible except glass two sculptures one adding to and one taking away ..she would walk around our chairs as we sculpt and say" Anna tell me about the interplay of the dance of shadows and light in your sculptures....it kept me intrigued for years ....I loved sculpting in every medium possible and her guidance... my journey as a sculptor began. My love of writing started in high school where poetry flowed out Me like a river, words like pebbles falling out of my pocket the flow of words never stopped. I love words and how they sound...alliterations. metaphors, images and descriptions I loved performance poetry ..like word baths sounding themselves into form. I love dancing the way movement creates forms and shapes unexpectedly deliciously describing all shapes of nature and expressive emotions of our beingness.. I love art as I believe we all create art as we live our lives uniquely expressing and transforming our world as we see it and create it.
